Step 1. Choosing a Style

  • Before starting a custom pair, take a look at your current wardrobe and how the pair will fit in. Having inspiration, whether it be from social media, a movie, or a game can help make this easier.
  • Your view of the shoes may change over time as you wear them. Consider whether the pair is one you will reach for repeatedly over the years.
  • Boots or Shoes that have minimal ornamentation, like broguing or stitching (such as Oxfords or Chelsea Boots will generally be more formal than those with more brogueing or stitching (such as our Longwing Derby or Moc Toe Boot)
  • Contact Us at Any Time - we are eager to advise and answer any and all questions you may have

Step 2: Sizing

  • Upon choosing a style, it is time to start customizing. This begins by selecting a Last
  • Our shoes are offered on different lasts (foot-shaped molds) each with slightly different characteristics, but will generally conform to your Brannock size. Please consult our Sizing information, which has an excellent overview of our lasts, and insight as to how each last will fit and look, as well as a measuring guide if you are unfamiliar with your Brannock sizing.
  • Generally, lasts with a narrower toe may be perceived as more formal than those with rounder toes. This is subjective, and each least can make change the look of each style.
  • Feel free to reach out to us directly to better understand your best fit.
  • If you want to ensure you get the perfect fit, we recommend adding a pair of trial shoes to allow you to test sizing before the production of your final pair takes place. Notably, the trial pair is yours to keep.

Step 3: Customizing Your Pair

  • Leather Selection - Leathers with visual texture, such as suedes or hatchgrains, are more casual than their smooth counterparts (calfskin, museum, shell cordovan, etc.). Don't let this deter you from using those leathers with more "formal" styles: these are only loose rules of thumb, which can (and should) be broken as you see fit. Excellent information on each of our leathers can be found here
  • Construction - As with leathers, constructions that introduce additional visual texture or weight will trend towards the casual side. The traditional hand welt is the "cleanest" option, which works particularly well with formal and casual footwear alike. Norvegesse, Stormwelt, and Stitchdown introduce more visual interest, causing the shoe's appearance to be more robust.
  • Soles and Heels - We offer many unique customization options previously found only on bespoke shoes. A fiddle back waist, steel toe taps, and sole initials are all unique ways to set your pair apart, while offering tangible benefits.
